Came here at the recommendation of a friend. We reserved using Open Table just in case and got seated just before our scheduled time. Would recommend to use this feature for important visits to not wait too long in the Texas heat. Had a special of the day drink that had a good balance of flavor. Only had one drink, but the rest of their menu items seemed to be between 8 - 12 on an average. We ordered the chili toreado queso. It was a delicious option. However, for only two of us we are what we could and it was only about half. So good news for big groups! Their tortilla chips were very good, not too thin and with a good crisp. We got the salsa that came with the chips and added a green "crudo" salsa that the waiter recommend. It did come with an upcharge but it was great to add to our other food. For the entrees I ordered the Alambre Mixto. It came with the mix of pork, beef, and shrimp with seasonal veggies. It was on a bed of chicken nopal rice. Personally I love nopales, but I would ask for a sample of you aren't familiar with nopales and their texture. The other entre was from the specials menu which was their Mar y Tierra. A cheese stuffed steak with two giant shrimp on top of jalapeño mashed potatoes and aguajillo sauce. It was by far the best. It certainly is more expensive than most other Mexican restaurants but you get a different level of food with an unique taste. Excited to come back and try more.
I ate here back in November, but had a dream about being back at this place again. I don't say this lightly, THIS IS THE BEST MEXICAN/TEX-MEX I HAVE EVER HAD. The service is amazing, the back porch is beautiful at night, and the food is mouthwatering good. We were in San Antonio for 3 days and ate here 3 times.
Bar, loud with employees eating and rolling silverware at 10:13pm , when the hours say open til10:30pm Hope no one wants to show up and have a drink in the neighborhood at 10pm because the dishwasher in bar is so loud you can't hear the person at the 2 top table talking to you !!! And then there's that guy sweeping under and around your feet when you are just trying to enjoy a Friday night!!! I think there is a party for the employees that's already started and I am slowing them down!!! Where is Cappi Lawton???? How is this acceptable???? Poor Monte Vista!!! And did I mention it was a Friday night????
