I heard that chiles en nogada were only in season in autumn, but I guess La Ki-K isn't beholden to seasons, because our waiter enthusiastically confirmed that they have them all year! We had one order of that and one order of squash flower soup. They were nice enough to split both only separate plates/bowls. I have to say that even the half-version of the chile was HUGE! They split it lengthwise so they could retain the signature chili shape, so the open side was on the bottom, and if I hadn't known, I'd never have known it was even in half. It had plenty of nice tart pomegranate seeds, the chili was robust, and the filling, well, it was a little sweet for me, but that's how it is when you stuff something with raisins and sweet starches. The texture of the meat was almost like vegan jerky, but I think it was actually chicken. The squash flower soup was hearty and very heavily spiced. On the side, served with bread and tortilla chips, were two very, very hot salsas. We were warned. We ignored the warning. We were happy we did. Because through the burning, we got a great kick of green flavor.
