Great food. Great service. Location is awesome.
OMG - years later and I still think about La Malquerida and their delicious grilled fish con ajo. While staying with girlfriends in Tulum for a 5 day stay, we dropped by La Malquerida at minimum 5 times. Ordered the same thing EVERY single time because...WOW! No other words. Just get the fish, a few shots of tequila and enjoy :)
I regret eating here for dinner a few nights ago. As a tourist, I only get so many dinners during a trip, and while there wasn't anything wrong with Malquerida, it was just such an incredibly boring and Americanized version of Mexican food that it was a waste of an experience. I had the tacos "La Malquerida", which was grilled arrachera, onions, and peppers with some cheese on top, and then it was interestingly covered with another layer of tortillas to make a volcano looking thing. Sounds way cooler than it actually was / looked. Taste wise it was totally fine. I also got a Negra Modelo, a Victoria, and some mezcal. These were pretty standard. Overall I think this place is way too popular for what it is, but it is on a nice corner so it's pretty good for people watching. But personally I'd go some place more interesting if I make it back to Tulum. There were plenty of more interesting places.
