This restaurant and US Army Museum of Hawaii can be both really attractive for tourists. French cuisine can be served here. The chef at La Mer cooks tasty tenderloin, scallops and foie gras. You can share nicely cooked soufflés, chocolate mousse and chocolate cakes with your friends and spend a nice time here. Delicious wine, champagne or martinis are among the best drinks to order. An excellent anniversary dinner at La Mer! The waitstaff is extremely attentive and helpful. We had the three course dinner and my filet minion was spectacular.
Ate here once and will prob be my only time. It's very high class and this is what you call fine dining. Service was great, food was great.. price is something I would pay once in my life for 2 people. Our bill came out to over $350 for only 2 people, yikes! Experience was amazing though!
I had to think about this one for 24 hours before reviewing. For starters they gave an asparagus pana cotta, this was actually quite delicious. Then bread service came and they offered 3 different breads that they really made a point to say were baked in their own bakery. They were good, but not outstanding by any means. The type of bread you get at any restaurant that gives you bread is what they reminded me of. Perhaps I would have enjoyed if they were warm while I was told how fresh they were from their own bakery, but no they were all cold rolls. Next course was crab with a veggie ratatouille. Crab was cooked perfectly and tender and everything it should be but was plain. Really seemed like totally plain crab with a side of vegetable ratatouille. Good, not fantastic. Next course I ordered the lobster, this was an additional $30 charge keep in mind. The body was quite tough and the claws were more tender. Interesting sauce and was good but not outstanding. Lastly I had the veal which was pretty close to raw, but I was told the chef will only cook it one way. Again, lacked a bit of flavor and maybe it was me but I wasn't a fan of it being literally raw. I must add I tried the filet from another person at my table and this was outstanding, served with truffle mashed potatoes that were excellent as well. If this dish was ordered alone this would be pretty darn close to a 5 star restaurant. Desert was a sponge cake and this was good as well. Cant say anything negative and can't say it was the best I have eaten. For the price I expected a bit more from each dish. Overall 3/5 would be a fair summary in my opinion.
