Went for a bridal shower, so we had a preset menu and semi private room. Staff was attentive, friendly, and accommodating. Parking: Because it is on Main Street, you have to park at one of the communal parking lots, which, on a weekend with good weather, can be a struggle to find a spot. Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Salad Parking space: Difficult to find parking

Absolute surprise win for a TexMex joint. La Palapa Grill & Cantina's first impressions feels like a TexMex chain from it's silly mascot to overly Texas and Mexican inspired decor. But beneath the curtain lies a restaurant that seeks to indulge it's patrons with an overabundance of delicious, and very unhealthy, comfort foods. La Palapa offers everything you'd expect from a TexMex establishment: tacos, burritos, chimichangas, and their famous fajitas. They also have not one, but two bars offering a wide assortment of beers, tequilas, and mixed drinks, including an huge margarita menu. These drinks are a bit on the pricy side, but they are tasty and strong. While I don't recommend using La Palapa as your go-to "get drunk" location, I totally recommend starting off a night of partying here with a few appetizers and their pitcher mixed drinks. Some of the dishes I recommend is the street corn appetizer, which is not meant for sharing, because you'll want it for yourself. The corn is perfectly charred and covered with spices and aioli, though it could have used a bit more cheese. Their crunchy tacos are made with freshly fried tortilla shells that are satisfying to chew with audible crunchiness. And if you want to truly treat yourself, their chimichangas are loaded with meat and beans, not rice, and smothered in cheese under a wrapping so crispy that it retains its crunch. One nitpick was the complimentary chips and salsa that came out before our meal. The chips were overly dry and the salsa was overly watery. But other than that, tasty food overall. La Palapa is a hidden TexMex gem in the heart of Old Ellicott.
