get here early!! they sell out. have been looking for a good focaccia in the city so we tried that morning’s rendition: basil tomato pesto ricotta. a lot denser of a crumb than i was expecting so it didn’t really scratch the itch, but it was pretty tasty nonetheless. the pistachio ricotta cookie was excellent, not too sweet. i will definitely come back to try more of their many amazing (and enormous) pastries. the almond cornetto is calling my name Service: Take out Meal type: Breakfast Recommended dishes: Pastries, Almond Cornetto, Bakery, Sfogliatella

As an Italian American with a background in working at an Italian bakery, I had high expectations for La Sicilia Italian Bakery & Café in Houston, Texas. Unfortunately, my experience was somewhat underwhelming. The small shop with limited seating meant I couldn't enjoy my pastries on-site, so I ordered to go. Upon entering, I was greeted with a beautiful display of pastries, and it was evident that they put effort into their presentation. I ordered a cannoli, a Sfogliatella riccia, and a creme brulee donut to go. The cannoli was a winner, with a freshly filled shell that did not disappoint. However, I was let down when it came to the sfogliatella riccia. Despite anticipating its sweet citrusy flavor and crunchy texture, it fell flat, lacking any distinct taste or citrus notes. Moving on to the creme brulee donut, the crispy sugar crust provided a satisfying crunch, but the rest of the donut failed to impress with its lack of flavor. It felt rather bland and uninspired. I will admit the bakery offers various pastries; perhaps my choices could have been better representations of their offerings. I will give them another chance and try something different next time. However, based on my initial visit, La Sicilia Italian Bakery & Café only received a mediocre rating from me.
