One first needs to know, that who ever currently has the lease/kitchen, the restaurant is always Pre Catalan. I was fortunate enough to to dine there many years ago when one of the most famous chefs in the world, Gaston LeNotre ran it. (Check out his cookbooks) It was the most memorable meal I ever had. Some years later I dined there again, and with no LeNotre, it wasn't the same experience. The setting/buildings are to die for. Set it the middle of the Bois, (be prepared for two things. One it is a long taxi ride, and two, be prepared to see along the way the mile or two of prostitutes and the 'John' driving by. But don't let this put you off.) As you enter the grounds of the restaurant, which consists of several buildings, one feels as if they have arrived at the country house of a titled family. The main dining room is spectacular. I don't know if is the same today, but the two times I visited, one did not book a time, just the evening, as your table was reserved for you and your party for the entire evening. The secondary buildings are normally used for weddings and receptions.
The service was excellent, friendly but professional. The food was delicious, and the price for a 3 start restaurant was less than most in town. I would say that the cuisine was pretty straight forward though. If you're looking for a Michelin star restaurant with an exciting, adventurous type of cuisine, this is not it.
Amazing!  This Michelin Three Star restaurant is definitely worth a visit.  Everything was literally perfect.  I had the beef tartare as a starter, chilled velvety pea soup, with lobster and tomato sorbet; filet mignon with riviera stuffed courgette; lemon cream and crispy meringue and finally some chocolate lenores.  Each dish was an experience. The tartare was paired with an avocado cream sauce that perfectly accented the fresh beef.  The pea soup with another perfect creation.  Who would have ever thought of dropping a lobster and tomato sorbet in pedestrian pea soup?!?!   Well, it was absolutely delicious.  The sorbet dropped the temperature of the already chilled pea soup when it hits your palate. Of course no surprise the filet was excellent and the stuffed courgette was probably the biggest positive surprise.  It was mildly crispy on the outside with a soft and comforting ratatouille stuffing.  The grounds/setting of the restaurant was elegant and posh.  No doubt lots of great Michelin restaurants in Paris worth trying, and Le Pre Catelan gets my vote...  bon appetite!
