It is with sadness and regret that I write this review. 25 years ago I lived just around the corner. Then I stopped by Markveien Mat & Vinhus several times, and was very satisfied. This was a place I spoke highly of because it was so good. When I was going to take my partner out on a Valentine's date (and the original plan failed) I thought that Løkka's white swan was a safe bet as plan B. They have never disappointed before. But something has happened in the two decades that have passed since I was last there. The arrival was fine, clearly we weren't the only ones celebrating each other on Valentine's Day. It got a little cramped in the entrance when two other couples arrived at the same time as us. You can almost expect that on a peak day. Then all three pairs were shown their tables at the same time. Next to each other. That's fine too. And we got a joint review of today's 3-, 4- and 5-course meals. A little unusual, but practical. At least for the waiter. Then we ordered. My waitress chose the three-course meal, with a meat option, mostly because of the accompaniments. I chose alacarte. There was nothing wrong with the starter. It arrived relatively quickly, and was good. But then the evening begins to fade. Our main course takes a little longer than the neighboring tables. When it arrives, it turns out that the kitchen has made the wrong main course for my roommate. It is initially strange considering that she should have today's wooden dishes. The point of having today's is that it should be easy for the kitchen and go smoothly. And then make the wrong dish... Yes, yes. But then it gets a little weirder. The waiter comes out with the wrong dish, and explains what had happened. This is strange. We understand it's a busy day. But they bring the dish to the table and ask if it's ok to have it instead. We are like most Norwegians, we hate making a public fuss. I think that's what they were thinking in the kitchen. Ask the guest, it will probably go well and then we won't have to make a new dish. In addition, my partner is a trained chef and has taken all the degrees in a kitchen. So she imagines the stress that can be in the kitchen. Therefore, she accepts the dish she is offered. And since the waitress was standing there with my dish, which was ready, she wouldn't send it back. The waiter says we should get a deduction from the bill as thanks for being so understanding. We then start eating. My boyfriend is a little disappointed, especially because it is a completely different dish, with different side dishes. As mentioned, the side dishes were the reason she chose that menu. They could just replace the meat, and keep the side dishes. That would have been a decent solution. We enjoyed each other's company and ate the main course. Then we wait for dessert. And waited. And waited. And waited. The neighboring table got their dessert, settled the bill and left. While we were still waiting. I didn't time it exactly, but it took a little over 35 minutes for the dessert to arrive. It would have been better if ten of those minutes had been spent earlier on making the right main course when they got it wrong. We hadn't noticed that, we would have been satisfied and I wouldn't have had to write this review. After the dessert and coffee I was going to ask for the bill. Several waiters rushed past several times, and I did not make contact until one served at the neighboring table. When the bill came, no deduction had been made as previously promised for the blundering members wrongly. Maybe I should point that out, but at this point we just wanted to leave. There was little tip, a bad review and I will advise others not to go there. I will tell you that there was one good place about 25 years ago, but that it has been lost. There have been so many other good places to eat on Grünerløkka over the years, so there is no point in wasting your money on Markveien food and wine house. And I think that's a shame. Good place for girlfriends who like wine, good place for food. If the wine is most important you go here, if the food is more important there are better places. Very variable results from the kitchen. Preferably also big variations, even if the dining party orders the same thing. My four courses in brief. Very salty and sour salmon for starters, perfect cod as dish no. 2. Duck breast which is as bad as the Swedish from the freezer counter that forgot to get a turn in the frying pan after (a little too hot) sous vide as dish no. 3. Dessert was a very forgettable pecan brownie. Pleasant and professional service! Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: kr 1,000+ Food: 3 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
