If you're looking for a true hidden gem in the Grand Rapids area, this is it! This is a humble, family-run establishment without all the fancy bells and whistles, but what it lacks in pretense, it more than makes up for with incredible food. They serve authentic Sri Lankan Tamil cuisine, which has a wonderful, distinct flavor profile compared to Indian Tamil food. Dharma was an amazing host and provided fantastic service throughout our visit. You can tell they make everything from scratch here the food doesn't come out instantly, but the wait is completely reasonable and absolutely worth it. You MUST try the Kothu Parotta; it is phenomenal. Any of their curries are a great choice, and the freshly made Kesari tasted exactly like homely comfort food. I would absolutely recommend this spot to anyone looking for great quality, authentic food at a reasonable price. An absolutely delicious experience from start to finish. What wonderful food! Today, five of us had the good fortune of lunching at Mithu Srilankan & Indian Cuisine in Grand Rapids, all of us with decades of experience in eating Indian cuisine in New York, London, Amsterdam, Dusseldorf, Milan, and cities across North America. Today was indeed a treat! Perfectly crispy and flavorful vegetable pekoras; deep fried okra in a curry of coconut milk, garlic, ginger, and lankan spices; a shrimp korma and a lamb korma in creamy seed and coconut based sauce; a vivid green Chicken Saag sauced with spinach cooked with spices and cream; a lovely Butter Chicken cooked in a mild but complexly flavorful cream tomato sauce; and lastly a Sri Lankan street food specialty called Kothu (a stir fry made with chopped chopped paratha mixed with egg, vegetables, onion and spices). For the table we ordered baskets of Coconut Roti and the best buttery paratha I have ever had, Mango and salty lassis were enjoyed by all as was the wonderful, perfectly cooked buttered rice. The dining room was plain but spotless. Seated and take out diners will focus on the food.
