Hout Bay's little harbour-side gem for the last 23 years... with the best views!

We're a family run, off-beat, no-frills eatery with a varied menu to suit even the most fussy eater. Come and enjoy our freshly prepared food whilst sitting on our shaded deck overlooking the picturesque harbour, the beach, and the famous Chapman's Peak.

We also serve a huge range of delicious ice cream and Bootlegger coffee.

We are a dedicated team, passionate about our business. We have grown from strength to strength, have a lot of regular patrons, and would love for you to become our "regulars" too!

You MUST try our famous hake and chips!

I think I may be a bit of a food snob. I am always on the lookout for established restaurants and coffee shops to try. On a Saturday stroll through Hout Bay, I stumbled upon Muriel’s. It looked interesting, so I took a quick look at the menu. The offerings are classic Cape Town fare — fish and chips, gatsbys and burgers — but what immediately caught my attention were the breakfasts and the sandwiches. The sandwich options were unique, slightly different and genuinely exciting. The "restaurant" (seating area) itself was neat, tidy and very clean. I eventually settled on the Mega Chicken Burger (patty, bacon, cheese and egg), while my wife chose a Polony and Red Vienna Gatsby. To accompany the meal we ordered a Buddy cooldrink, a BarOne milkshake and a cappuccino. The cappuccino was excellent — as good as, if not better than, what you would find at many specialist coffee shops. The BarOne milkshake was divine, with pieces of chocolate adding a rich texture. The burger was fresh, flavourful and incredibly satisfying. My wife only managed to eat half of the half-Gatsby she ordered. The Gatsby itself was delicious, especially the chips with their spice mix and the perinaise sauce that tied everything together perfectly. We initially sat downstairs until we noticed people heading up a staircase. Curious, we followed them upstairs — and what a view! The upper level offers a fantastic vantage point over Hout Bay, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Perhaps the most impressive part of the entire outing was the price. For just R276 we enjoyed everything described above. It is rare to find that kind of value for money, particularly in Cape Town. The service was also outstanding — better than what you sometimes receive at high-end restaurants. Our food arrived within about 10 minutes of ordering and the staff were exceptionally friendly. One detail I have not yet mentioned is that the entire "restaurant" is built from shipping containers, which gives it a unique and charming character, fitting for a harbour venue. Well done to Muriel and the team: friendly service, excellent value for money, tasty food and a spectacular view. I will definitely be back. Price per person: R 100–200 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Chicken Burger, Chips & Red Vienna Vegetarian options: There was a Frys burger option on the menu.

Good morning Anesh! Wow, yours is the absolute KING of reviews!! When I first read it I could not believe someone would take the time to go into so much detail... but you described us to a T... a lot of people won't venture in; and we are sometimes simply referred to as a "tuck shop", but they are really missing out! Thank you so much for this! Look forward to seeing you again soon!
