Being a subiaco local, I have been dining at Piccolo Trattoria restaurant for years, bringing many friends & family but in the last 6 months, something has dramatically changed in reference to the food & the staff It’s clear by the reviews in the last 6 months, this is echoed by other guests I took 2 friends there on 11 July 2026 and the manager & staff were extremely kurt & rude and we felt rushed and ignored. It was really disappointing I was overcharged $18 for oil we never asked for, as we specifically asked for butter and no oil - the butter we got was the takeaway peel off type The food sizes eg Eggplant parmigiana & Greek salad have shrunk significantly to what I have enjoyed before The 2 x Eggplant parmigiana were cold so we asked if it could be heated. The manager refused and said it’s supposed to be cold due to the cheese on top (that was not what we meant, and this dish in the past was always piping hot.) My friend ordered his favourite Goat chops yet had splinters throughout the dry meat. Again this has never happened before. The staff would not even deduct the two lots of oil that we did not have So all up, the food was way below standard and the manager and floor staff made a bad situation worse. Intimate and authentic Italian restaurant. We have been there a few times and the pasta never disappoints. This time we had the linguine with anchovies (my favourite dish of this place so far) and the steak with broccolini. Also ordered the Eggplant from the starters section but forgot to take pictures. The pasta was absolutely divine. Some extra grated parmesan gave it the perfect extra kick. The eggplant was super tasty, will order again. The steak was not my favourite though. I ordered medium rare and the outer parts were a little burnt (tasted a bit like charcoal) and the meat was quite rough. I believe the roughness might have more to do with the meat quality rather than the cooking, but then again, it might have been a once-off (and i am also very picky with steaks). So next time I’ll order two pasta dishes instead From past experiences, the ragú pasta and the beef ravioli are also very good, as well as the salad and calamari Aside from the roughness of the steak, I really couldn’t flaw this place. It will always be my first to recommend, the pasta is superb!! And my compliments to the service, the ladies are always extra attentive and lovely.
