My friend from the mainland came to Hawaii for a work trip and he invited us to eat with him and his group at Nico's. Going into this dinner, I assumed Nico's was (1)touristy, (2) expensive, (3) not worth a visit when there's so many more places to eat only 15 minutes away. As a local, I was pleasantly surprised that my assumptions about Nico's was very wrong. 1. Touristy? Maybe, but don't let that stop you! There's not many places on island with live music and great view of the harbor. Also, I saw a great mix of locals and tourists eating here so, clearly, this places is known by many on island. 2. Expensive? Worth it. Yes, my husband paid $30 for the pork, but it was so WORTH IT. The portion sizing makes up for the price. My friend got their special for the night which was the Prime Rib for $35, and so worth it! The price to plate ratio is about 1:1 so I say it's fair for what you pay. As someone who bases how much I like a place depending on how much food you get this place really exceeded my expectation. 3. Not worth a visit. Yeah, I was wrong. The food is BOMB. It's juicy, flavorful, fries are crispy, fish tasted great, oyster shots so good my husband paid for more. And let's not forget that the service was so fast for a group of 32 people and they were all so nice. Yeah, definitely was proven wrong about Nico's Pier 38. So don't be surprised if you see me and my husband here again for another dinner sometime soon.

We have been here several times before pre covid days and didn't recall such un satisfaction. I ordered the crab burger with a salad I was not given a choice for dressing and it came drenched in a thick unrecognizable kind that I didn't enjoy, my crab burger was out of the normal fishy and so small it felt like I was eating just a bun. My son and husband ordered fish and chips each one had only one small piece of fish it looked like one regular plate that was divided into two. I wouldn't be so disappointed if this didn't cost me so much for below average food with above average cost.
