I'm going to start this off by saying if you want seafood, particular oysters, this is a really good place to go. This mediocre review is not because of that. We stopped in Newport because my boyfriend wanted seafood once while we were on the coast. When we got there we walked in the wrong way, which I only realized later  but a server sat us anyway which is really nice. He ordered the oysters and chips, and I got the veggie burger and hit chocolate. First off the table was sticky, which I really hate in restaurants. It makes me feel like the whole place is dirty even though I'm sure it's not. Then my hit chocolate was basically water. I started mixing it up and realized it was just powder that I could've made into hot chocolate at home. I don't know why I was expecting GOOD hot chocolate, but they could have at least put two packets in so it actually had flavor, or at the very least actually mix it up. Then the server came back and said they didn't have the veggie burger, so I ordered the Alfredo instead. I don't eat meat so I was really excited they actually had a veggie burger which is sometimes hard to find, and it's a big pet peeve of mine when restaurants have an item on the menu and then say they don't "have" it. I get that they may just not have the items to make it, but in the morning you could at least put  a note on the menu. My boyfriend loved his food, it was just what he wanted for his one seafood splurge (he usually doesn't eat animals either). I tried the chips (fries, whatever) and they were awesome! His one complaint was that he didn't like the coleslaw, it had way too much cilantro in it. My Alfredo was good, it wasn't anything special but I've noticed this with Alfredo. It's usually just kind of bland it seems. I also felt like this was particularly too cheesy, though most people would probably love it. The atmosphere is cool, I liked it with the old fisherman feel. All in all a good place, just a few disappointing things adding up. Again, my boyfriend seriously loved his food so if you want oysters, this is a good place to go.
Seafood stew is my favorite! Love the option of being able to grill the fish for fish and chips. The active fishing bayfront is a draw to Historic Newport.
Great Halibut Fish & Chips.  Small pieces, but yummy.  There were 5 pieces. I asked for 2 grilled & 3 battered. They were nice to prepare them split like that.  Next time it'll be grilled for me! My husband had the fried oysters.  They said small oysters, but they were pretty large. My husband really enjoyed his food too.
