August 2019 is the last month The Octopus is open due to a lease rate increase. Coffee? Books? Readings? This place had a big literary and artistic community, a place to grab a cup of joe, talk about books, read books and sell books and in the evenings, readings from Bay Area authors and poets. This place will go down as a Literary Salon like no other and it's sad to see them go. 5++ stars. We will always remember The Octopus in Oakland!

I think this was a neat place. I didn't try the food yet but enjoyed a cup of coffee. There was a writers club meeting while we were there so my friend and I stayed for the book reading. That was cool! We got to hear published authors read some of their work! My friend had a baked good and said it was a little dry but I didn't taste it myself. Will come back some time to try food!

I will gladly walk 6 blocks from my office to The Octopus Literary Salon for their kale Caesar salad. After much trial and error with neighborhood salads, I finally found one that tastes creamy and delicious. On top of the great salad, this little Salon is adorable with all types of books for sale and a unique vibe.
