Well, as Anthony Bourdain said, you should avoid mussels at a restaurant unless you know the chef or have seen with your own eyes that they are stored and prepared properly. We ordered a few dishes for takeout, including the mussels, and were served bad mussels. I’m unsure how these made it out the kitchen as the smell alone was pretty offensive. Didn’t notice until I excitedly popped one in my mouth but I gagged and almost immediately spit it out. Then I smelled the others and yep, awful! As a seafood restaurant, I think you should be conscious of what you are serving to people. Smell the seafood, make sure it’s not gone bad. This is bare minimum stuff. Extremely off-putting. Won’t be ordering again. Food: 1

My wife and I had the pleasure of dining at the Edmonton Trail Big Fish on our recent wedding anniversary. Our experience was excellent from the seafood chowder to our Pistachio Crusted Artic Char to the chocolate dessert. The Char, a recommendation by our attentive waiter Gurdeep, was among the best I've ever had anywhere. We will be returning soon and you should consider it too! Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $40–50

An absolute gem in Calgary! (100/100 recommended)My wife and I visited Big Fish & Open Range - Renfrew, and we couldn't be happier with the experience. We wanted to try some special cuts and authentic Alberta food, so we decided to order the Elk sirloin. It was a spectacular choice! The meat was incredibly tender, perfectly cooked, and packed with extraordinary flavour.The restaurant is a true hidden gem. The atmosphere is fantastic, but what really elevated our evening was the service. The entire staff, and of course Jen, our host, were super attentive, communicative, and took the time to thoroughly explain the details of the menu, making us feel so welcome.After spending 7 days exploring Calgary, Banff, and Jasper, this dinner was without a doubt the icing on the cake for our trip. If you are looking for exceptional local food and impeccable service, this place is a solid 100/100. Highly recommended! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: $50–60
