Both dumpling options are great, although I definitely prefer the shrimp one. I also enjoyed their chicken wings - a good price for the amount. My only issue is that some beverages cannot be taken out as a to-go order, so I had to settle on something other than what I had in mind. And the yogurt I got ended up giving me a severe stomachache. Would recommend this restaurant, but maybe stay away from their yogurts. I believe mine was past the expiration date.
Wow, reading Hannah P.'s review below giving this place 1 star for asking her to order the $20 minimum to use a credit card (despite finding the food very good) made me decide to write. I'm a regular here and find the food amazingly fresh and tasty. It's not too greasy or salty, and the dishes are executed so well. I'm here at least once a week ordering the string bean chicken at my picky kids' request, and the food is consistently good. The staff is hard working, knowledgeable and professional, and I can't understand why any customer would ding them for trying to enforce the restaurant's written and established policy of asking for a $20 minimum food order to use a credit card (NOTE to Hannah: The staff was doing you a favor). Aside from the string bean chicken, we've also tried the eggplant and fish; honey walnut shrimp; lion meatball glass noodle stew; house combo noodles; and garlic pea sprouts. Everything has been great. I asked the friendly owner what other dishes she'd recommend and can't wait to try the lamb dishes and braised eggplant next.
Compared to downtown San Mateo, this calmer part of town resides a restaurant that offers great food, room to spread out (sure, bring in the baby prams and park right next to your table) and easy parking. Peking Alley is the best place in San Mateo to find truly authentic and delicious traditional Beijing Chinese food, so says their website. Totally agree. Here you'll find the standard onion pancakes, cold dish appetizers, and lamb in various forms - dumplings, marinated cold dishes, clay pot, skewers, stir fried ... you get the idea. Lunch specials offered daily and there's also items that are available only on the weekends.  House-made soymilk was a bit watery though. Highly recommend the Jing Bing Guo Zi. If you rather spend your downtown parking meter money on food, this place is a good suggestion.
