Peli Peli Vintage has been our go to place for the last 10 years, and would be a 5 star plus! When people would ask us what the food was like the only and best description we could say was every bite is an explosion of flavor! The service always exceptional! When friends or family visited we always took them to our favorite place, everyone loved it! In fact, our sister is coming to town from Colorado with the main goal to eat here she loves it so much! I don't know what we will do now. Recently, we received an e-mail saying Chef Paul was making a major change to the menu to make the food more health conscious & more affordable so people wouldn't see Peli Peli as just a special occasion experience.   We went yesterday for our anniversary, I won't lie, we were a little apprehensive, but thought "it's chef Paul, it will be great". Sadly, it wasn't. My husband always loved the steak, ordered it every time without fail. This time he described it as a steak he could get anywhere, the special basting sauce was gone, the flavor wasn't there, not to mention it was very small which he knew that would be the case since it was 8oz, it used to be 18oz, he said, I probably don't need that big of a steak as long as it's still excellent, it wasn't. I ordered the beef espetada, it was ok, again, the flavor just wasn't the Peli Peli flavor we always expect. The brussel sprouts & roasted potatoes were still very good. They brought my husband a huge bowl of the potatoes, I guess to make up for the size of the steak since the price was still pretty high? As far as making the bill more affordable, our bill was still $140 (that has been a minimum for us regularly) without dessert, (thank goodness Sticky Toffee Pudding is the same!) the manager comped that for us since we weren't very happy with our meals. Where is the more affordable pricing? We didn't come because it was cheap, we can do that anywhere, we came here because the food was always excellent... not so much with this change, don't know if we will be back. Tweeking the menu is one thing, completely fixing something that wasn't broken we don't understand. I hope other people who feel like we do will voice their opinion. I'm not over stating it by saying this breaks our hearts, really breaks our hearts. Our waiter & the manager were excellent.
We dined last night as first time guests and it was a fantastic experience.  The food was amazing. Israel was our server and he made fantastic recommendations and told us all kinds of information about the restaurant, food sources and the decor.  We had a fabulous time and will definitely return whenever we are in Houston.
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary by trying out Peli Peli in The Galleria. First time for the both of us. Our server Calvin K. was extremely knowledgable of their menu and offered great recommendations! Excellent customer service and attention to detail! The Casper Skillet and Espetada was second to none! We will definitely come back! Thank you Calvin K for taking great care of us.
