Came here last Saturday for anniversary lunch. Was really excited to get on with the 9 course chef tasting menu. The dishes were superb, I'm not going to get into every single one served but just a couple that really stood out. My most fav were the seared sea bass and trout. I have to say I've never had fish cooked perfectly in my life. Both literally melted in my mouth, now if I can only cook fish that way at home I'll be a happy camper. The desserts were abundant in small portions, they were meh though. None made my eyes roll back from pure bliss as I was expecting from a high end restaurant at Per Se's caliber. Bit disappointed there. There was also a couple of dishes I didn't care for, the flavor combination just didn't make sense. Service was at its finest, real genuine staff that are at the top of fine dining industry. My shellfish allergy was accommodated and asked about food restriction from pregnancy. The view was incredible and clearly the focal point, the whole restaurant overlooked Columbus Circle and part of Central Park. Ambiance was very elegant with minimalistic decor, two giant floral arrangements on both ends of the restaurant and a simple stone walled fireplace divides the wall to wall glass window. The best part; they packed a bag full of goodies to take home to our kids. We also got to take our menu signed by the chef home.
4.5 Stars It was a wonderful evening. Per Se was everything expected of fine dining. The restaurant has a beautiful view overlooking Columbus Circle, elegant white tablecloth surroundings inside, attentive service, and beautifully plated food. There were only two prixe fix menus to choose from with about 9 courses each. One with all vegetarian courses and the other with options such as foie gras, wagyu, lobster or veal. Each course was a small morsel of flavor starting with a small cornet, appetizers, entrees, and then desserts. Most of the dishes were pretty good, but there wasn't any that stood out. It's a very luxurious experience to be savored though my favorite fine dining establishments in the city would still be Le Bernardin and the Modern (since they have less of a sticker shock.)
The service is impeccable. There's just no other word for it. Ten star plus for it.  Warm, inviting and personable. As my dinner date went to the restroom the staff would come by and make small talk and make sure I was not just awkwardly sitting there alone. The food...some of the dishes were phenomenal and some were just sadly Ok. the meal began with a bang with the pearl and oyster dish. I would have been happy with just a big bowl of that. Each course was beautifully plated and truly appealing to the eyes. Some sadly didn't have any of the wow factor I've come to really enjoy and look forward to from Chef Keller and his team. The dessert course however was and still is quite spectacular, memorable and delicious. Really loved the take away short bread cookie sandwiches as well.
