Nestled in the historic heart of The Rocks, Phillip's Foote is a unique establishment that offers a DIY steak and fish dining experience. This authentic Australian eatery boasts a warm and cozy ambiance, complete with a charming outdoor garden and a cute bar. The interior design is simple yet elegant, featuring a meat case display like at a grocery store and a well-stocked salad bar. The prices are reasonable for the area, and the quality of food is exceptional. The location is convenient, making it a popular spot among tourists and locals alike.

What sets Phillip's Foote apart from other fine dining spots is the opportunity to cook your own meat on a commercial grill facing the ordering area. The menu features signature sirloin steak, eye fillet, T-bone, lamb, fish, and meat pie with wonderfully flaky crust. The drinks menu includes a good selection of wine and beer, as well as Aperol spritz cocktails, soft drinks, and freshly brewed coffee. The salad and hot sides served over the counter are unlimited, making it a great value for money.

While the salad bar has been closed during COVID-19, Phillip's Foote still offers a wonderful dining experience with its top-notch meat and sides choices. The staff is friendly and helpful, providing clear instructions on how to cook the meat to perfection. The restaurant is also getting popular among fly-over workers as a must-try even with short stays in Sydney. Overall, Phillip's Foote is a charming establishment that offers a unique dining experience and should not be missed when visiting The Rocks.

It is now called Le Foote instead of Philip’s Foote. Good food.

Le Foote Wine (ex Phillip’s) Bar in Sydney had delicious food, but the small and crowded seating arrangements, noisy atmosphere, and credit card surcharge made it a disappointing dining experience.

A friend recommended Phillip's Foote, he lived in Sydney for 12 years, so I took him up on the recommendation. We came mid-day on a Monday. It was the lunch hour and things were pretty quiet. It was a little tricky to find, we actually walked through the alley that dissects this restaurant, we didn't even realize we walked through until we circled back around and come in the front. The front is a bar, order at the bar and then pull up a stool at a high table. We were there to eat, so we were directed out the back and up to the food part of the restaurant. This is a "serve yourself" kind of place. Oh, and cook for yourself, too! There was a meat case like at the grocery store with meats and salother menu choices on display. We notice what appeared to be a customer turning their steak over on a commercial grill facing the ordering area. My companion ordered a steak, I ordered a meat pie (I was later scolded by said friend, "that's not the place to have an Aussi pie!" We pointed a our selections and through a little chaos (with only one person working behind the counter), were able figure out how this place works. Luckily I didn't have to cook my own pie, but my companion did have to cook his own steak. We both went through a nicely stocked salad bar and found a place to sit, The seating is spread out. Once seated and the steak was on the grill, I ventured off to find beverages (there is NO table service). The bartenders were not immediately on hand so after making the trek, I had to wait, too. We sat right by a bigger, second grill. Once the steak was done and I delivered our drinks, my meat pie was delivered and we finally got to eating. Entertainment came in the form of (what I guessed was) a tour group cooking all their various meats on the grill with lots of grill coaching going on. The food quality was good, though some of that can be dependent on who the cook is. The meat pie had a wonderfully flaky crust. The meat filling was stout and flavorful. With the prices in this tony neighborhood of Sydney (The Rocks), I am sure there are many other interesting and renowned restaurants that don't require you cook for yourself.
