Absolutely one of the best meals I have had in a long time. Their specialty is Tafelspitz which is boiled cuts of beef in a fabulous broth with sides and condiments. It is a great austrian experience and heaven in a few steps. They even give you a pamphlet on how to truly enjoy the experience. A must try in Vienna
Best meal in Vienna if you love beef stew with bone marrow. The Wiener schnitzel made to perfection as well. Avoid the bread up charge
Our hotel concierge recommended Plachuttas Gasthaus zur Oper as the best place in town for authentic Wiener Schnitzel. He did offer to help with a reservation, as they are often quite busy. We sat outside in a dining area covered by a retractable shade. The table was sitting on a slight tilt to one side, as the sidewalk was uneven. As mentioned, they were extremely busy when we arrived but the area did not seem crowded. We ordered soup to start and Wiener Schnitzel for our entrees. The entree was served simply with warm potato salad and lemon. I ordered a beer with dinner and P had two glasses of wine. The food was good, but not as special as we had expected. The staff seemed quite distracted by the other patrons, leaving us to flag down someone for more water and finally the bill. With additional charges for other items listed in German, our dinner cost about 72 Euros plus tip. Our final impression was that this was more a tourist attraction than an authentic Viennese experience.
