While I am happy to report that Pokéwave is still very much alive in Astoria (#1), I am saddened that it's not likely to come back to Flushing. It wasn't remotely close to any poké that I've had in Hawaii or the west coast, but that wasn't really the point. It was just the notion that there was something different to enjoy in the heart of downtown Flushing (#2) without venturing elsewhere. Like most eateries along Roosevelt, it was small and could only sit a handful of folks. It was as fast casual all the way, with young people behind the counter plopping out ice cream scoop portions of fish and sides. The vibe was as laid back as being in Hawaii, super chill and very casual. I'm not sure it resonated much with the local Flushing crowd, but I imagine from the ratings that it was enough to win over a good amount of folks. As noted earlier, the poké was solid, but not really the same animal as poké out west and especially in Hawaii. I'm not sure if it was the quality of the fish or if the salt / soy sauce / sesame oil etc. wasn't up to par, but something was off. However, I like raw fish enough to enjoy it with most things, even if the portions were lacking at times. The wasabi mix was always my go-to when I was around. Like everything in this area, the space will transform into (hopefully) something new and awesome. The good news is that despite the fact poké wasn't much of a thing around these parts when this place first opened, it has blossomed into roughly a dozen spots across the borough. It might not be the (poké)wave they intended, but I am hoping we'll all be swimming in it soon. ______________ (#1) Go now: yelp.com/biz/pokéwave-as… (#2) You know, aside from Popeyes / Dunkin Donuts / Starbucks.

PokeWave is not open due to COVID but I'm leaving a review because I absolutely love this place. I've been here at least 5 times and every time I left extremely satisfied with the poke, as well as the amazing service. The salmon and the tuna are super fresh and they give a generous amount of topping every time. You can actually pick the toppings for your poke and there's a variety of choices to pick from. I miss getting poke from here and I hope they open soon.
