Michelin Guide rating

Michelin selection.
Very good standard.

This is a steakhouse in the moneyed Time Warner Center after all, so deals here are going down almost as quickly as those bottles of Château Margaux. Still, this isn’t a suits-only haunt; in fact, the intuitive service makes everyone feel like a bigwig. And the Central Park views are worthy of the price tag alone... More info

Really great steakhouse at Columbus Circle. Had a lovely lunch. The filet and onion rings were stand out dishes. Highly recommend the cognac peppercorn sauce. The brownie sundae is not to be missed. While the food is and always has been great the service at lunch was a bit of a miss. Glasses took a long time to be refilled, dishes were cleared slowly, and courses took some time to be served despite the restaurant being only half full.

Skip this place! It's a business model to rip people off. Promptly arrived with a reservation and was asked to have a seat at the bar while our table was being prepared. 35 mins later our table was ready after we spent $75 on 3 drinks. Every person arriving with a reservation was asked to have a seat at the bar. This place must be cleaning up on these pre-dinner drinks. The bartenders were indifferent and unfriendly. Very transactional experience. I had requested a table by the window when I made the reservation (my wife bday) and was being sat crammed in between 2 other couples near the entrance. All this after waiting 35 mins at the bar. Then the hostess went to switch our seats to an end table (still not a window seat). As we were about to sit 2 men dining together scooted over into the end table from the adjoining table. The hostess did nothing about it and just let them have the end table she was about to sit us in. I Had to speak to the manager about the incompetence. We ended up back in the original crammed table. At this point we just wanted to leave but we tried to make the best of it. The food was dismal, See below ratings. Bar= 1/5 stars Apps- Caesar Salad 2/5 stars Dinner- Steak for 2 at $180= 2/5 stars Service= 1/5 Stars Comp'd free desserts by the manager because of true incompetence of the front desk screwing up our seating. We Didn't even want it (Still spent $550 with tip for 2 people)! I would skip this place and go to Tuscany Steakhouse on 58th St between 6-7th ave if you are in the Columbus Circle area. Porterhouse Bar and Grill is tourist trap ripoff, it's certainly not worth it!! Genuine overall rating 1 Star out of 5.

There are a few, select restaurants that can hold a sort of timeless place in food memory. The Porter House Bar and Grill is one such place. I had not dined in the restaurant for years. My previous work took me to New York City frequently and I made a point of eating at the Porter House a few times a years. When I changed jobs I no longer traveled to the city and lost contact with the restaurant. Back in the New York to speak at a conference, I needed (was completely compelled) to revisit the place. Oh my goodness - the time I was away did not feel like a New York minute, but man the wait was so worth it. The service was just as top notch h and the food hit the ball over the fence (sorry, bad analogy). The food, the service, the elegant ambiance - everything was the same! What a great night. I love this place.
