We went to this location last night at about 6 pm. Let me start by saying that the Italian Beef Sandwich's and the Chicken Sandwich were very good. The fries and onion rings were about average. The cashier taking our orders should be fired.  First of all she was wearing a mask (I understand that). However it was very noisy in the restaurant.  She mumbled every word she said and was impossible to understand. My bill was $30.78. I gave her $31.00. She told me that she had no change unless I wanted 22 pennies.  She made absolutely no effort to get change from another register which was less than five feet away. I just chalked it up to her being an incompetent employee.

A lot of signs proclaim to serve "Chicago Roast Beefs" but they very rarely measure up. Portillo's was born in the windy city and they've got the original article. To all the dimwits complaining about your soggy sammy, they gave you a choice. You could have ordered it dry. When I lived in Chicago I don't ever remember being asked about the level of wet. They just come that way. The bread is supposed to be drenched in au jus. It's not grease, it's the broth from slow cooking the roast beef for hours and hours. Perhaps the drenched bun is an acquired taste but don't blame the establishment for your inability to order correctly and/or know what it is you asked for. I also got a hot dog that was the bomb. I've long been of the philosophy that all hot dog buns should have poppy seeds on them. I'll fight over this belief. And onion rings? Yeah, amazing! There were some bonus french fries in my bag but don't expect them in yours because you're not lucky like me. I ate it all but shut up. You're not my mom. The negative feedback for service may be on point but wasn't true when I was there. A manager even came by and asked how things were.     *pro-tip: go when the place in busy. That's when workers got their groove on. It's possible you might need some Chicago roots to fully enjoy Portillo's offerings. But, then again, if you don't like their food you prolly just have bad taste. Ps. Anyone else wonder if all the people who pan restaurants for blan tasting food really just have a case of the "Vid?" I do.
