During our recent week-long visit to Amsterdam, my wife and I strove to try someplace different each day for breakfast, using a variety of recommendation resources to zero in on something walkable from our hotel in Amsterdam—Oost. We were well-rewarded in our choice of Rise Bakery, despite having a scant handful of positive reviews on this site and not many more on others (we've learned historically that can be dicey since often such handfuls of initial reviews can be from friends and family).Once there, I perused their large and beautiful selection of freshly-baked breads and pastries and selected a cinnamon roll and my wife their anise- or licorice-tinged "wheel". Both were delicious. For beverages, I enjoyed a hot chocolate and my wife a cappuccino.During our long visit there, we also got to both experience and observe their delightful, warm, candid, and friendly proprietors—he mostly working the kitchen and she mostly the counter.Rise Bakery can be a bit of a challenge to actually find in reality. They are located on Albert Cuypstraat in De Pijp. While that sounds straightforward enough, Albert Cuypstraat is actually a neighborhood-long street stall market six days a week. Consequently, on those six days, Rise Bakery and every other business on Albert Cuypstraat is "buried" behind those stalls, well out of sight. So, to find Rise, you either need to walk the very narrow and "business end" gauntlet behind all of the stalls on the south side of the street or you need to walk the market and look for Rise's chevron flag that marks their location behind the stalls. If you're looking for a fresh warm breakfast bite along with a warm beverage and great hospitality, Rise Bakery is well worth the search and find!
