Cocktails are better than the food.
It's important to note that this review is based solely on service, as my wife and I did something that neither of us have ever done before: walked out of a restaurant before ordering. But Radish + Rye has some weird ideas on how to treat its customers, guaranteeing we'll never be back. My wife and I had a 8:30 reservation on a Thursday night. The problems started with the hostess. We arrived a few minutes before 8:30, but two parties walked in the door right in front of us. For each of these parties, the hostess wandered around the restaurant to find them a table/helping to set their tables. As a result, it was about ten minutes before we were acknowledged by the hostess and led to our table. It's not what you expect of a nice restaurant, but also not the biggest problem in the world. The real problem arose upon being seated. Our server, Michael, brought our menus, then asked us what kind of water we would like, running through the options so quickly that we couldn't understand what the options were. Upon opting for normal tap water, he then informed us that the kitchen closed at 8:45, giving us about 5 minutes to put our food order in, or we wouldn't get any food. WTF! Feeling incredibly rushed, my wife and I set about determining what food we wanted to order. Michael returned a minute or so later asking us if we wanted to order something to drink. "Well, we're trying to figure out our food order first since we have to get that in so quickly." In the back and forth that ensued, Michael got super huffy, and yelled "This is NOT my fault," as he stormed off back to the kitchen. At that point, we got up and left. A dinner out at any half-decent restaurant should be a relaxing, welcoming experience. Radish + Rye's lack of front-of-house execution and their insane policy of seating folks 15 minutes before closing their kitchen (super early, too...8:30 is hardly a late seating at any restaurant located outside a senior living facility) made the experience anything but pleasant. If you're going to go, make sure you have an early reservation, budget in plenty of time to be seated by the hostess, and hopefully you don't get a waiter who's in a bad mood. But you're probably going to have a better experience at any of the myriad other quality restaurants in Santa Fe.
Dinner? Great. Atmosphere? Great. Cocktails!? Oh my lord. Chris takes attention to detail to another level. The meticulous nature in which he prepares his palate pleasers is unmatched. Imagine watching DiVinci in his workshop, Galileo in his prime, or even Mike Tyson dissecting his opponent, each and every bit of the cocktail was meant to be what it was: An outstanding example of craftsmanship, in which, a true masterpiece was created. If you enjoy things that are delicious, more importantly, someone who truly cares about perfection, Radish & Rye is a MUST VISIT in Santa Fe.
