Went here for breakfast on a Sunday morning. We chose from the breakfast menu: Classic with scrambled eggs & sausages and Cheese Omelette with bacon. Both dishes came with watermelon and feta, grilled toast, potatoes and a small cupcake plus coffee or tea. Good, filling breakfast but nothing too memorable

After walking around part of the old city for a few minutes, I decided to have dinner at Bistro 1640. The restaurant takes up a significant portion of the ground floor of a hotel, and it has a large Parisian-style patio in front, but it was much too cold for dining outside. Inside there were a few different dining areas. The common theme in all areas was solid wood table tops with a medium stained finish. The decor was relatively dark, warm and comfortable.

I chose to order from the Table d’Hôte. I started with the Onion Soup. When it was served, the most prominent feature was the large puff pasty that filled most of the width of the crock. The red wine beef broth had plenty of flavour, enhanced with savoury, sweet onions, with a layer of melty, chewy Cantonnier cheese. Good start to the meal. As I waited for my main course, the server brought a couple of fresh buns with some pâté and butter.

My main course was Sous-vide Natural Beef with Gremolata. The beef was very tender, sitting atop Yukon Gold purée in a butter, onion and wine sauce. There were a few crispy housemade potato chips and also texture from a piece of almost crispy prosciutto. I thought it was a splendid dish.

My dessert course was the 1640 Maple Syrup Crème Brûlée. Sugary, creamy, with just a hint of maple syrup.

Service was competent, although a little bit blunt. Overall it was a good meal.
