Today was my first of what I am sure will be many visits to Roaming Buffalo Bar-B-Que. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal. I am very happy there is a BBQ place in the Southeast part of Denver! The two meat plate I ordered had Sausage and 3 very meaty pork spare ribs Southwest side of coleslaw, and a Cheddar Roll. It was more food than I'm used to for lunch and I took one rib home. The ribs were perfectly smoked, and the Sausage was spicy, but not to hot for the flavors to come through, very well balanced. I arrived around 1:30 pm, so the lunch rush was winding down. It is located at 2387 South Downing Street, near Porter Hospital and Harvard Gulch Park. The restaurant has a comfortable, rustic feel and the obvious remodeling that took place prior to the January opening is apparent. Gone is the "greasy spoon" feel with previous ventures, with a spotless work area for Chef Coy just inside the front door, and right beside the.two pellet fed smoking cabinets. I ordered a two meat plate, choosing for my visit Pork Spare Ribs and Jalapeno Cheddar Sausage that is made on the premises. For my included side dish, I chose Honey Lime Coleslaw and a cheddar roll was also included in the two meat plate. Meats that are available "By The Plate" include, Lamb Shoulder, Brisket, Bison Short Ribs, and Chopped Pork, Cornish Game Hen Plate, Colorado Lamb Shank Plate, in addition to the Pork Ribs and Sausage I chose for my plate. By The Plate orders can include one, two and three meats, one Southwest Side, and a Cheddar Roll. Two menu items that had already sold out for today were the Lamb Shanks and the Cornish Game Hens. When items sell out they are displayed on a chalkboard near the front door. Meats are also available by the pound, "Smoked Low and Slow with the sauce on the side", as well as "Between A Bun". Additional side dishes to choose from include Red Eye Cowboy Beans, Double D's Roasted Corn & Cheese, Southwest Potato Salad and two varieties of house made Potato Chips, Sea Salt, and White Cheddar & Green Chile. There are two sauces served along with the meals, a classic sweet sauce and a spicier raging buffalo sauce. Coy the Chef has his food prep area right beside the smokers and everything is prepared "to order". I was also able to sample the Brisket, Colorado Bison Short Ribs, Pulled Colorado Lamb Shoulder, and the Chopped Pork, and all of the meats are very flavorful. I can't wait until my next visit. Be advised that they are open until the day's supply of smoked meat runs out, so call ahead if it's getting to be later in the afternoon.
