We drove all the way here from the other side of the island to find out that they had changed their business hours without updating them in Google Maps. The burgers here may be good, but the management sucks.

Nostalgia is real. If one can go back . . . Saimim was IT. Unlike today, with Ramen places in every nook and cranny. It has become oversaturated with over complicated ramen. Saimin is simple, homey, comfortable, pleasant. I have made it a mission to try/re-try these old school, local saimin places. Shige's Saimin Stand is actually a "newer" Saimin place having opened in 1990, but it definitely does have the old school feel. This place is located in Wahiawa, at the end of a strip mall (Wahiawa Mall) from the main road (Kam Hwy), on the left hand side, right before Kilani St., heading North Shore bound. There's a decent amount of parking. Right when we walked in, we were greeted with a warm welcome. This place isn't quite a hole in the wall as it has a decent amount of well spaced out tables. It's bright and clean. I love seeing the backlit, yellowed, letterboard menus. You need skills to create that now. No autocorrect! First, a big shoutout to our awesome server, Andrew. Friendly, patient, informative, and genuine brightness, hospitality, and warmth really made this an enjoyable and memorable experience. We started with the Regular Hamburger. So simple, yet so good. Nice, sized patty that was prepared and seasoned very well. The key was the char and the crisp. The Mac Salad was light and well seasoned. The Teri Beef BBQ Stick was excellent. Tender and tasty. Extra char would've been nice. Lastly, the Wonton Mein was solid. Simple, yet satisfying. The dashi broth was clean, savory, and slightly sweet note. Nice sized wonton filled with well seasoned pork. Topped with slices of Char Siu, luncheon meat, cooked egg, a slice of kamaboko fish cake, and scallions. The Saimin noodles were a little different than what I'm used to. It's slightly wide and flat--similar to those Nissin Cup Noodles, but thicker--and more so soft and less dense, which I don't mind at all. Overall, an excellent experience. Just a simple, no frills meal with warm, welcoming, friendly, genuine service. All the food was well prepared and delicious. Prices are quite affordable with generous portions. It's been a long, long, long time when a meal for two cost BELOW $20. Everything hit all the points. I wished I lived closer, or across the street. I'd come here everyday! When passing by Wahiawa, definitely hit up Shige's!
