So. Let me start by saying my boyfriend and I keep recommending this place to people who visit Seattle and referencing the meal we had here as one of the best meals of our lives. The tasting menu is a must (and a really good deal for all the food you get!). We went for a late birthday dinner for me and the host and waitress made sure to make the night special by having a complementary glass of champagne, a card, and in general just asking about my birthday plans. The waitress and host were interested in our trip to Seattle (we were visiting from Atlanta) but not annoyingly so. It was a great atmosphere where we felt welcomed but not intruded upon. Now to the food - there are no words. We enjoyed each of the 10 plates at a 5/5 level, which is a rarity. Everything tasted fresh yet had a lot of flavor and was unique. We felt absolutely stuffed afterwards but not gross. I think our favorite dish was the pasta with octopus, chorizo, red sauce, and black noodles. It sounds like kinda a weird combo but the combo and whatever red sauce was in the pasta was AMAZING. You should definitely just let them take the reigns on the tasting menu - they know what they're doing! They also give you the option to tell them anything you don't like before committing to the tasting menu. We will definitely be back here during our next visit to Seattle!
Our 2nd visit to S&F and we will absolutely be returning customers. We had a perfect dinner here last night. Walked in late on Monday night 9:30 pm. Ballard is very sleepy at that time and we were worried we would be turned away but the server was super friendly and seemed genuinely happy to seat us. She helped us select a nice bottle of wine for our romantic meal. Motown music was playing and great lighting set the mood. The cocktails we ordered were well prepared and I watched the bartender prepare them with care. Zero attitude in this place. For food we shared Fois gras with seasonal grilled fruits, Pappardelle with a bolognese sauce and risotto with lobster mushrooms and uni butter. All of these dishes were perfect for the dark, cold evening. Rich, comforting and balanced. In summary, the room, the ambiance, the service, wine and the food were just perfect. Restaurants like this are the reason we keep driving all the way from Vancouver, Canada to visit your town. Can't wait to return!
Last minute decision to come here and very impressed.  They were busy but kindly got us seated quickly with no reservations.  All food options were tasty and filling.  Waitress was attentive and friendly.  Cocktails were also unique.  Lovely atmosphere and ambience.  Thank you for a great experience while visiting Seattle.
