With vegetarians in our party we sometimes have disappointing experience eating out in rural Yorkshire. We phoned a pub near North Staveley to check what they offered for Sunday lunch and were told "we could get some vege sausages out of the freezer". This led us to try The Staveley Arms instead and I am so grateful we did!We received a very warm welcome and were shown to a table in a spacious dining room. Simply decorated it felt very homely and comfortable. The menu did not disappoint with lots of choice for meat and fish eaters. There was also a vegan option and another vegetarian option. Our party ordered a roast beef dinner, bream and finally a vegetarian strudel. The only comment was that the gravy with the beef had too much flavour distracting from the meat, a personal preference rather than a complaint. The fish and vegetarian meals were spot on with perfect, freshly cooked vegetables. Be prepared to wait a good 15 minutes for this to happen but it's well worth it and you should never be in rush for good food.Desert choice was maybe less inspiring than the rest of the menu but we had a chocolate brownie and a chocolate tart both of which were well presented and delicious. Most of the staff were youngsters but have clearly been well trained being efficient and very attentive without intruding.Overall we felt that it was one of the best meals we have had in a long time and incredibly good value. There is absolutely no doubt that we will be returning whenever we are in the area.
