The most disappointing sushi experience.  The food was very underwhelming and for $200 a person.  Got the omakase and had 17 pieces.  Had chutoro, otoro, yellowtail, king salmon, mirugai, uni, blue crab hand roll to name a few.  Had been looking forward to Yasuda for years and couple of friends recommended it but severely disappointed.  Fish tasted off and wasn't fresh.
This is a great sushi place in the city and becoming one of my favorite go-to spots. I would give it a 4.5 if I could but that because a 4 felt too low and a 5 felt too high. Please note you do not go here and order a California roll, you go here and order fresh quality nigiri and sashimi. The place follows the standard Japanese sushi experience and will not allow you to mix your ginger and wasabi into the soy sauce, add sugar to your green tea, rub your chopsticks together as if you were starting a fire, and tip as it is incorporated into the prices of the sushi. You do not have to make a reservation. Whenever I do walk-ins I'm usually seated right away. The ambiance is definitely more simple: spacious seating, minimal artwork on walls, wood furnishings, etc. The service was good you can get in and out in a good amount of time (about an hour). There's 2 very different service experiences if you sit at the bar versus sitting at a table. The bar is where you get the more authentic Japanese experience, the tables you get a more friendly wait staff. Overall it's a great sushi place worth trying in the city!
Unfortunately the menu has changed and the old chef left. I'm not exactly sure whether my palate has expanded or if the quality has declined but it's not the same for me anymore. It's a fine restaurant but lots of top sushi options in NYC now.
