Taberna Dos Mercadores is a cozy, small fine dining spot in Porto that serves up traditional Portuguese cuisine. The interior design is charming and intimate, with only a dozen tables available. Prices are reasonable and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful.
One of the standout dishes is the seafood porridge, which is creamy and thick with fresh seafood. Other popular dishes include the arroz do marisco, a seafood rice dish, and the octopus salad. The shellfish feijoada, a stew made with beans and shellfish, is also a must-try.
For drinks, the restaurant offers a variety of wines, including Alvarinho and vino verde, as well as cocktails and soft drinks. The staff is knowledgeable about their menu and can make recommendations based on your preferences.
Overall, Taberna Dos Mercadores is a great establishment to experience local flavors of Porto. Be sure to make a reservation or arrive early, as the restaurant fills up quickly.
They opened late, after waiting in line for half an hour. The place is tiny, between our table and the one next to us there was no space, it was as if we had gone together. Little variety on the menu. I ordered rice with baked octopus, the octopus was very good, but the rice didn't taste like anything and was of poor quality, for €27.50 there was very little octopus. My partner tavern cod, the best of this are the potatoes, the cod rather dry and salty. Meal type: Lunch Price per person: €25–30 Food: 2 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 1
Taberna Dos Mercadores is a must-visit for any foodie in Porto. The fresh fish is simply superb, and the service is top-notch. I'm not kidding when I say it's worth the hour wait. I do recommend getting a recommendation weeks before you visit, so you don't have to wait in line. The food is Michelin-star quality, but the prices are very reasonable. We had the clams to start, garlic shrimp, salt crusted fish and octopus in rice. Save room for desert. It was possibly the best meal I've ever had in Portugal. It's almost as good as Belcanto, the two-Michelin-starred restaurant next door. If you're looking for a truly memorable dining experience, I highly recommend Taberna Dos Mercadores.
