I don't know who the gentleman is there during the lunch hour but he is phenomenal. Excellent service and personality. Always A1 service and always on point. My coworker and I usually sit at the high top table by the window.
Where do I start?  I had such high hopes for That Little Mexican Cafe.  My cousins live down the street from the restaurant and rave about it all the time, so decided to go there for dinner. The space is lovely, very festive.  We sat down in the bar area and were immediately greeted and asked about drinks. I had brought a bottle of bubbles because my cousin had called ahead and asked if we could do so. When we got there we were told they don't allow that.  Since she didn't get the name of the person who said it was ok to do so, I opted to not do a corkage fee and just order a drink.  So not a good start to meal.  I know my cousin, she is very thorough so I know she heard what she heard.   Ended up taking the bottle back to the cousins place to drink later. We got drinks and proceeded to order. We started out with the Empanadas (black beans and goat cheese), guacamole and the Calamari Salad (grilled calamari, mixed greens, onion, garlic, hot peppers, olive oil and herbs). The salad was amazing, although with the peppers, a little too hot for me. I would get this again without the hot peppers. The empanadas were good, but didn't knock my socks off.  The guacamole was very good and I would definitely do that again. For dinner I got the burrito with steak.  The burrito was okay, but the rice and beans were pretty bland.  Needed to use a lot of salt to add some flavor.  My cousin got the duck fajitas and that was actually pretty good.  The Doctor got the steak tacos....they looked basic, just meat, onions and cilantro.  I tried his rice and beans to see if they would have more oomph...nope they do not.  Again, not sure how a Mexican restaurant can make rice and beans with no flavor.  Overall, most of the food simply had no flavor, nothing remotely to make me think I was eating Mexican food. The Margarita was good and I could see myself going back for the calamari salad and guacamole, but food-wise I don't think this a place I would come back to for a full meal.  My storefront taco places have more flavorful food and at a cheaper price.  I understand this is a personal favorite of a lot of people, but with so many excellent Mexican restaurants in Chicago, That That Little Mexican Cafe will have to step its game up to get me to drive there again.  If I am just down the street visiting the family, then I would consider popping in for a drink and light nosh.
Cowboy hat behind the bar couldn't understand why we complained about the poor service. I'd been a faithful 10 year customer week in week out and it went to shit. Made a comment about how it was the last time I was going to visit and Cowboy hat made some smart ass comment that I should have grilled him on, but whatever. Lots of money spent here over the years, no mas. The customer service and quality sucks the big one, no bueno, they can SUXADIK
