A new branch of The Choux Patisserie, founded by Pastry Chef Orlando Partner, has opened at the former Entry Hill Golf Course cafe location. As the name suggests, the cafe specialises in offering Choux Buns with specials created each week. Apparently Orlando has his own contemporary approach to making Choux buns, however I tried their macarons (at time of writing, they were £2 for one), which are delicious. My kids tried the Choux Bun the previous day and thought they were scrummy, and judging from the amount of people sitting outside and queuing to order boxes of buns to take away, they are very popular. I also tried the iced coffee, which was decent as well. The focus seems to be on the pastries as there aren't many types of coffee servings on offer, e.g., black coffee or coffee with silky milk (which I assume is a latte). They were also selling homemade lemonade, which was popular in the summer heat. The cafe itself is a little on the sparse and functional side with a wooden breakfast bar and stalls running around the edge of the cafe, which encourages you to look out through the full length windows at the wild, natural park beyond. Outside the cafe is a patio area with wooden tables and seating, which benefits from some partial shade provided by nearby tall trees. The park itself is somewhat in limbo. It was a 9-hole golf course for many years. This was deemed unsustainable as a business by the council (or too expensive to maintain, I forget which) and closed. It was then meant to be a mountain bike park, but that idea was dropped. What it will be, at time of writing, is unclear, but it's currently a lovely tranquil space. Entry Hill Park is where locals walk their dogs and kids play lengthy games of hide and seek, running through overgrown grassland between trees and small woods along worn paths that seem mostly maintained by steady visitor footfall. There are benches dotted about the park, which are excellent for reading, and there's a lack of litter to speak of as it seems that those who know about the spot appear to look after it. On a sunny day, it's a peaceful gem enjoyed by all ages. Update: 17/06/23 Initially, I gave the Choux Box Patisserie a score of 4 out 5 because the cafe was a little plain and I felt it needed more drinks on offer. A brunch menu was also starting on Sunday 11th June 2023, so it seemed like it was in the early stages and finding its feet. On reflection, I feel the main focus is the Choux buns and they are exceptional so it deserves a 5. The staff are always very pleasant and when the sun is shining it's probably the loveliest place to be on this side of Bath. On a practical note, there's a toilet and a free decent-sized car park. Access is by some steepish steps, but there is a wheel-chair friendly route down next to the car park area. Service: Take out Meal type: Other Price per person: £1–10 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
