Quiet, friendly, good food and service. Nice pub.
Up from Kent for a few days, lovely village Pub, great atmosphere, staff very professional & attentive. Waited far too long for our pre-booked meals. M & P Ashford.
Came here for a lunch a few days ago. And my dining companions managed to get their sandwiches fairly quickly, whilst I had to wait about 15 minutes for my entree; and that was after one of my companions got up and asked the waitress where my food was. I ordered the beef bourguignon. If anyone has ever had this delightful dish in other restaurants it is typically served with mashed potatoes and carrots - not rice. I believe this might be just an odd British obsession adding rice to dishes which traditionally never have rice - like beef stroganoff (but I digress). What I got was: rice, carrots, and parsnips. I could accept this, barely, but the parsnips were so under-cooked they were rockhard. As it took 15 minutes to actually get my dish and most of my dining companions were close to finishing (and we all had to return to work) I didn't send it back - cos lord knows when they would actually return with cooked veg, considering how long it took to get it in the first place. When I did mention, upon paying for my meal, the lady taking my payment was rather blaise about my lack of being able to eat half my meal and seemed to think it was my fault that I did not send it back - again, WOMAN, if your ktichen hadn't been so slow to get the dish to me I might have .. considering we all pre-ordered and had reservations, one would think that the meals would be reasonbly close to being complete by the time we arrived. The sandwiches everyone else had looked good. One may wonder why I didn't order a sandwich - I'm lactose intolerant and beef bourguignon (if done properly) does not have dairy in it. Like most pubs in the UK there isn't really much by way of choice for those of us who fear the brutal consequences of cow-squeezings (and btw, we far outnumber those with gluten intolerance .. about 70% of the globe we are). The Plough Inn is lovely, the wait staff were nice as well. If you want to go in and experience a comfy atmosphere and are looking for "traditional" dishes then this place is pretty good. If you want a french beef stew (beef bourguignon) or something more challenging than a sandwich, fish & chips or a roast dinner - go elsewhere.
