If you have never tasted International cuisine, you should reserve a table at this restaurant. The truth is that you will really enjoy perfectly cooked baked salmon, rainbow trout and belly pork. Tokara Restaurant offers good baked alaska, coffee ice cream and chocolate custard. Don't miss the opportunity to order delicious Sauvignon blanc, champagne or chardonnay. Great chocolate frappe, coffee with cream or cappuccino are worth a try here.

So yesterday for a birthday lunch we took a drive to Tokara. Was a little bit underwhelming and not quite as good as I had expected, bar one dish.

The staff were friendly and somewhat helpful. At the end of the main meal, we asked for the rest of our food to be packed into take-a-ways and the first response was "we don't do take-a-ways", we were quite shocked. A second waiter did manage to organise some tinfoil and pack our food to go.

Fresh rye bread and fresh cornbread were first up with poppy seed butter and olive tapenade.

The outstanding dish of the day was the Chefs special: Baked Alaska of Rainbow Trout with Smoked Salmon ice cream. Stunning piece of Trout sat on top of a bed of citrus topped with a baked meringue and a scoop of Smoked Salmon ice cream. Simply delicious. The other starter we ordered was the
Tempura line fish with smoked snoek amasi, sushi rice puffed grains, avocado & ginger sauce. A deconstructed sushi roll.

Main meals: Pan fried linefish (Hake) with cauliflower, spinach and Chardonnay mussel cream. The hake was delicate and lite which sat on top of spinach and lentils that was perfectly cooked. A large dollop of pureed cauliflower and the Chardonnay mussel cream was more of a foam but very tasty.

Roasted Springbok with heernboon puree, crisp greens and Cabernet Sauvignon mirroir sauce. The Springbok was soft and melt in the mouth.

Wood fire Roasted Beef with seasonal root vegetables, onions & black pepper sauce. The Beef sirloin was superb and the root vegetables made the dish.

Although the food was top standard, we had none of the little extras that you would expect of a place of that quality. A little amuse bouche or palate cleanser between dishes would have made a big difference.

This will be on our revisit list just for the food. Tokara Restaurant's teeth rating:
