Since this was fast casual we both ordered off of the limited menu; me a tamale plate consisting of (my choice) two chicken tamales and two habanero pork tamales, rice and beans, while my friend had the tamale pie. We took a seat while waiting for the preparation.
After about five minutes we were rewarded with some freshly made tamales. My friend's tamale pie consisted of fritos, queso and beans mixed together on a bottom layer with two tamales layered above. I offered him some of my salsa to complete his meal. He said it was enjoyable. My tamale plate was equally as good. The medium-sized chicken and habanero tamales (not terribly spicy) were tender , crumbly delicious. The refried beans were whipped smooth, and not greasy or fatty. Seasoned perfectly on all accounts. The rice was good too. It made for a fine dinner.
Since this was fast casual, it was mostly serve yourself for the drinks, although Chef Bradley Borchardt, came out and greeted us with firm handshakes. We were checked on at regular intervals asking if we lacked anything. Everything was fine.
We missed The Daytripper, Chet Garner, who along with his family, had eaten here earlier in the day. He seems to know the good places to hit in town, and my friend and I agreed that this is a nice little niche restaurant in Grapevine.
