One of my favourite restaurant for sashimi. Pick your own fresh seafood, to be cut up and presented nicely on a platter. Hot food was lovely too. Highly recommended
Looks like the restaurant has changed ownership. Sashimi still nice and fresh which is the main thing we like.
After some mad cravings for sashimi and a few nights of searching a place that had both decent prices and a good selection of white flesh fish, we decided to give Tsukiji a try.

I read some reviews saying the place can get quite busy and your selection of fish may be limited be you go too late in the day so we made sure we got there early.

Note that we went on Monday for lunch as the store has limited opening hours, for example they are open for lunch but closed for dinner on Mondays.

We arrived a little passed 12pm which is when they open. When we arrived, there was one lady already there who seemed like a regular customer and the owners were friendly with her but unfortunately we did not receive the same greeting (no greeting to be exact). We felt a little uncomfortable being there as it was very quite and the owners didnt acknowledge us when we entered and when we were looking at they produce (felt like we werent meant to be in there tbh..)

On the plus side, they have a great selection of fish that are cut to sizes so that most fish do not exceed the $8 mark (average of $5 per pack). This was great as we could pick a varitey of fish to try. It was means that you can work within your own budgets and decide what you want for what you want to spend. They also have tubs of seaweed salad, takowasabi and octopus salad to go with your sashimi and some hot and cold menu items to choose from as well.

The owners are out the back most of the time unless someone has called for their service or bring out food so do not hesitate to use the bell if you need help.

We took our fish to the counter and ordered a udon to go with it. We asked for eat in and so the lady took the fish out the back to get sliced up.

I was so impressed with the slicing of the fish and each fish was sliced to a particular thickness to enjoy the fullness of the flavour. All the fish was so fresh and tasty. My partner's favourite was the king fish that was cut thick and although we often get king fish when eating out at sushi trains, this king fish tasted so much better thanks to the thicker slicing.
I personally loved the snapper due to its texture. I actually like that it has more bite to the flesh.
We also got a takowasabi which was also quite good.

The udon was very basic in flavour and came with one tempura prawn. This was okay because it was what we had anticipated when we ordered it and we got it was more of a palate cleaner.

Although the service was a little cold, we felt that the quality of the fish made up for this. Also as the owner's were more advanced in their years, it was more understandable (at least they were nice and friendly to eachother).
We will definately be back whether it be to eat in again or get some to take away for a platter to share with dinner guests.
