Ignore other places, discover the Japanese menu at this restaurant. It's a pleasant experience to try nicely cooked nigiri, albacore and tempura. Order good ice cream, it's quite yummy. A lot of visitors order delicious wine. Matcha lovers will find it great.

The cosy atmosphere of Umeda makes guests feel relaxed and have a good time. The attentive staff meets you at this place all year round. Fabulous service is something that people highlight in their reviews. From the visitors' point of view, prices are attractive. As you can see, this spot has the lovely decor. This restaurant is a Michelin selection and has been awarded 2 black knife-and-fork symbols: the inspectors state that Umeda guarantees optimum comfort.

This is literally the best sushi/sashimi I've ever had in my life. So fresh and tasty. Some of my faves: salmon, salmon skin roll, yellowtail, crispy tuna. The place was empty and I could not believe how tasty it was. Highly recommend, you won't regret it!
Amazing food and service!
Umeda is a top-tier destination sushi bar that happens to be in my neighborhood. I've been four times in the last year, most recently for my brother's graduation dinner and to celebrate a new job (I'm working full time for the first time in years, but somehow still managing to Yelp like a fiend). It's a small-ish place across the street from the Mozzas with a six- to eight-seat sushi bar and maybe a dozen or so tables. I've only gone on weekend nights at peak dinner hours and have yet to see it at capacity. I hope it does well enough to stay in business because it's a magnificent restaurant and I'd like to keep going when I have the excuse. The space is attractive with a calm, easy atmosphere. I'd recommend sitting at the bar, as it's fun to see Chef Umeda and his team at work, but the table experience is nice, too. Service is great, polite and attentive. There's a full bar, which is always a plus, though we've brought bottles of wine every time we've come here. The food is terrific. I've ordered both omakase and a la carte, and I don't think you can really go wrong either way. The menu centers on sushi, but also offers a wide variety of prepared dishes--salads, skewers, tempura, noodles, donburi, and plenty more. Everything I've had here has been delicious. The sushi, of course, is superb--high quality fish, excellent sushi rice, even notably good ginger. I've had several wonderful pieces of nigiri here. Salmon and yellowtail and tuna (what my husband calls "the white guy special"), unagi and anago, aji and shimaaji, sawada and iwashi, toro and seared toro, sea bream and scallop and squid. Baby white shrimp and succulent sweet shrimp, the heads fried up crispy. Uni and ikura come in nigiri form or in tiny finger bowls over mounds of sushi rice with nori and a little sauce. The tamago is fluffy and sweet. If you like rolls--and who doesn't?--the soft shell crab roll is fantastic, as is the blue crab hand roll, which comes in soy paper with a spicy masago sauce. Can't go wrong with the spicy tuna either. Umeda also does a lot of crudos and interesting sashimi dishes, many of which come grouped together in lovely arrays when you opt for omakase. I've enjoyed scallop carpaccio, shimaaji with yuzu, kinmedai with dry miso and fried garlic, kanpachi with serrano chile, halibut with ponzu and sesame, and Kumamoto and Shigoku oysters with caviar and ponzu. A silky toro tartare comes with caviar for extra decadence, and an uni chawanmushi comes with a bright green sauce that somehow improves uni chawanmushi. I've also liked a lettuce wrap with crab ceviche, as well as an usutsukuri of halibut, I believe, served with liver and seaweed and spicy ponzu. Two stellar salads have come with a bunch of sashimi: butterflied amaebi in one, and a combination of albacore, ebi, tako, and iwashi in the other. And actually, Umeda even does some good vegetarian fare, though you might be hard pressed to make a meal of it. I love the heirloom tomato ceviche, and have been impressed by little bites of escabeche with yuba and pickled Japanese peach. The cold pink somen noodles are slurpably tasty, served in a refreshing tsuyu. The hot food is great, too. The black cod with saikyo miso is as buttery as you'd expect, and I've liked a dish of salmon with yuzu aioli and mushrooms as well as the karaage and the creamy spicy rock shrimp tempura. If you see a crab tempura on the menu, jump on it, as it's not always available. For some warming noodle soup, I love the inaniwa chuuka udon with jidori chicken tsukune. If you want a rice bowl, I'd recommend the wappa rice with freshwater eel. Umeda also offers some fairly involved desserts, a little unusual for a Japanese restaurant but very welcome. The mango shave ice is the ideal light dessert, and the green tea cake would be too pretty to eat if it weren't also irresistible, spongey and reservedly sweet, served in a box with whipped cream, berries, and matcha powder. I've also liked a small selection of treats at the end of an omakase meal--sesame tofu, chocolate mochi, and lychee sorbet. Every dinner I've had here has been unique and extraordinary, with beautiful sushi and precise, thoughtful Japanese cooking. If you like high-end sushi bars, Umeda should be next on your list. It's one of the best omakase joints in the city, and for now, anyway, an easy reservation.
