I always enjoyed being here when I was studying. Now there is a charge for a larger glass of tap water (> 1/8) with the coffee. I find it very absurd. Unfortunately, that's quite a downer for what is otherwise a beautiful place. But that really doesn't work for me and makes the place super unpleasant.

My friend and I wanted to spend a nice Monday in Vienna and Cafe Votiv was recommended to us. But this recommendation must have been a joke! When we came in we were met with an unpleasant smell. Maybe it just smells like bad service? We weren't greeted when we came in, but okay. The cafe was pretty empty, so we wanted to sit at a table for four with more space. Then the waitress came and snapped at us that it was a four-person place and not a two-person place. As if we hadn't understood it the first time, she had to repeat it loudly three or four times in a derogatory tone in front of all the other customers. We should have left there already. Luckily, another waiter came and gave us tips for the menu (free soup with the menu, etc.). We said we needed a little time to think about it. Just a few seconds later, as if she hadn't seen that we had already been served by the other waiter, the rude lady comes back to us and asks what we want. Not a problem per se. But she created a problem from this: when we also told her that we needed a little more, she first looked puzzled, then turned around without saying a word, rolling her eyes. My friend and I looked at each other and it was clear to us: enough, we're leaving. So we got up, packed our things and headed towards the exit. As we left, we received a condescending giggle with an arrogant look from the waitress. For whatever reason, she seemed to be making fun of us leaving and then whispered to her colleague with her hand in front of her. This woman has probably never heard of good service and respectful treatment in her life. We understand that when it's rush hour, the place is full, you're running from one guest to the next and everything has to happen quickly, that you can be stressed and in a bad mood. But that wasn't the case and it seemed as if the woman had deliberately acted in such a condescending manner. Conclusion: We will no longer visit this cafe, the service is dragged down to the deepest basement with this waitress. Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1
