This place is a faculty club for WashU, but allows people to reserve for bug events like weddings and funerals. It faces a beautiful lawn in the back, and features large dining rooms and a bar. Its living room area is largely decorated with natural wood walls, giving a warm feel to it. It can be a great place for hosting cocktail receptions. The patio also features a great dining space. My only gripe is that the inside is a bit boring. Not too ornate and at times no character to be honest. Different rooms feel like a bit of a hodge podge with no unified theme connecting them. As you can imagine, not everyone can come here, but it is still good event space. The location is great, and the back yard is definitely a huge selling point.
This is a review for the Whittemore House as a wedding venue - although we have also dined there and like it much more the some of the other reviews. In fact, both as a venue and a place to eat we found the Whittemore House to be charming and classy at the same time. The wedding coordinators and staff could not have been better for our special day. Art was especially knowledgeable and understandably flexible for our wedding - which happened to coincide with the extremely busy graduation and commencement time for Wash U. It would be easy to look at the experience through rose-colored glasses as the bride and groom, but many of our wedding guests went out of their way to tell us just how good the food and service was. And for this, we are grateful. Our wedding was about 90 people in size. We easily could have accommodated 120 comfortably. They have our highest recommendation.
