used to be my absolute favorite special / celebration / date spot in the city; still amazing but quality has gone down a little in both food and service
I am more than happy to change my 2-star review to 5-stars after the restaurant's manager, Edward, went above and beyond to rectify a host's rude attitude. My first experience with Woodlot ended with my partner and I leaving early because we felt unwelcome. I came to Google Reviews to write about said experience and was contacted promptly by the manager who sincerely apologized for the behaviour and asked us to come back in. My partner and I shared an incredible meal - I'm vegan but he's not so it's always nice to find a restaurant that does both well. We shared the Hen of the Woods Mushroom starter and a side of Brussels Sprouts (which our server, unprompted, asked to be made vegan since she knew my preferences) and both were delectable. I then had the Artichoke Heart dish as my main and wow - my tastebuds are watering now just thinking about it!! Instead of butter, they substitued almond butter - which I never would have thought of. You couldn't taste it but it made for a very rich and creamy-tasting dish. Finally, I had the Dark Chocolate Budino with fresh passionfruit (which is my absolute fave). I was skeptical of the "quinoa" crumble on top but ended up loving it! It added a lovely texture to the dish. I want to reiterate that even though our first experience wasn't the best, because of the hospitality of Edward and our server, I would hands down recommend this place to anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion and will definitely return myself. Yes, the price tag is a bit higher than average but the food and atmosphere is definitely worth it.
Amazing food and atmosphere. Love the options for smaller portions on some mains.
