Forget that this is the #2 restaurant in Astoria, it's the #1 restaurant in New York as far as I am concerned. My nephew and his wife had the christening luncheon at Trattoria L'incontro of their new baby daughter. Wow, first the restaurant is just lovely w/ the lights and murals. Service was exceptional - trying to take care of and serving 70 plus guests. We took over the main dining room on the first floor. Waiters were on hand to answer questions, refill water and wine glasses, deliver and serve each fabulous course that we had. Our waiter provided us w/ several entrees to choose from and was so knowledgeable about how each entree is prepared. My sister-in-law has food allergies and he was very helpful in choosing the best way for her to have the black sea bass. We started w/ a generous portion of the Italian antipasto - cured meats, cheeses including delicious mozzarella, red peppers, & olives. The waiter then comes by w/ stuffed eggplant - yum I had a second helping! Then it was the grilled octopus - simply done, tender, nestled in baby greens. Wow, I'm looking forward to Greece this Fall to be able to have more grilled octopus but I know where I can have it in the United States, right here in Astoria! Then came the risotto & ravioli - delicious - creamy and rich - it was the best risotto that I've had in a while. Then came our main entrees, wow, plating for 70 plus guests, amazing kitchen. I was so impressed that they were able to get out everyone's entrees so quickly in a very short period of time. I had the veal chop - don't have it very often and sometimes even thought it is a beautiful piece of meat, some cooks don't cook it well (including me) - wow, the waiter said medium rare was the best and my veal chop was medium rare and the best veal chop that I have ever had - the chiodini mushrooms and sauce over the chop enhanced the dish. Everyone enjoyed their entree, whether it was the rack of lamb, the black sea bass, or the grilled filet steak. We ended w/ coffee and a napoleon cake which was also exceptional. I know that my nephew & his wife enjoy this restaurant and for good reasons. The food and service is simply exceptional. I was extremely impressed w/ how well the restaurant handled such a large party. This is the place to go if you want to hold an event - they know how to do it.
