The rolling green hills of Warrandyte can give the visitor the illusion of the countryside whilst still dwelling within the boundries of Melbourne's outer eastern suburbs. It is here that you will find two gems in one - Aumanns Gourmet Supermarket with adjoining cafe, 13 rows. A quiet yet beautiful setting, it reminds me of regional Victoria, borderline farm property with large shed containing produce for sale - it is here I tend to relax a little more than most urban cafe's. You will be pleasantly surprised by the service and environment, before being swept away by the choices of meals and drinks on offer. I love the coffee here - along with the options of dirty chai and leaf chai bring a little spice with the meal. Today I've sampled the new breakfast menu - The Big Brekky and the Moroccan styled Spiced Garden Eggs. The servings at this price look around 20% more than most urban offerings, and it sure hits home when you receive a large gourmet sausage with hefty bacon strips in the Big Brekky! I like the Kale & beans addition which breaks up the dull Hashbrown-Bacon-eggs mix that you'll find across town. Also the home-made potato rosti is delectable with the local relish served on the side. A surprising addition is the Moroccan-styled fare which was quite uplifting considering the ricotta dashed in with well-made vegetable mix and green garnish to top off this medium-spiced meal. The poached eggs almost seemed out of place, however when served with sourdough, it remains more of a breakfast option - quite welcome indeed. Overall exceptionally presented and colourful, these meals were quit inviting, well cooked and appropriately mannered with the added presentation adding to the aura. There are a variety of cakes and snacks - see photos - that are also baked/prepared in-house, and that simply adds to the wonderful selection of great foods that makes it a worthwhile tip from any part of town. There are plenty of seating options with a small park adjacent which is quite refreshing and adds to the calm attitude of the place. This is also a dog friendly cafe with pans of water out front, so bring your lovable doggo along for some fun. When you've had a good helping, it's always nice to mosy on next door for some pasta, cheeses or other gourmet goods available at Aumanns. All in all it makes for a great weekend adventure to visit 13 rows in Warrandyte South, on your way through the eastsen and/or the north eastern quadrant of Melbourne. We certainly made a day of it visiting nurseries and a winery along the way. Although the facilities are adequate, an extra loo would be handy when visitors begin to crowd in for lunch. Refreshing and inviting, it's almost perfect - 9.5/10 from me. Price per person: $20–40 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
