As a former NYC resident and wife to a born-and-raised New Yorker, our move to Southern California had us sorely missing our favorite breakfast on-the-go. Initially residing in Orange County, we tried a handful of bagel shops throughout OC, but none of them really satisfied that New York bagel craving. Upon our move to the Inland Empire, we were convinced that we would have to wait for our visits to New York to get our fix. One day, we decided to do a search in the area and came across this place called 42nd Street Bagel Cafe. The name and reference to Times Square already gave us doubts (as many New Yorkers may identify TSQ = tourist trap), but the outstanding reviews left us intrigued to see whether they would really live up to the hype and their namesake. We decided to give them a try and were floored the second we stepped in. On the surface alone, they had nailed the look of a New York bagel spot. The decor itself kept it true to the Times Square feel with all of the Broadway show references painted on the walls. When we put the bagels, cream cheese, and egg sandwiches to the test, they exceeded all of our expectations. We truly felt like we were eating a New York bagel. Our first experience was back in 2016 and we have not found another bagel shop in our time residing in SoCal that even comes close to matching the taste and quality of the bagels at 42nd Street Bagels. Any New York transplants now residing in the I.E. needing their bagel fix, 42nd Street Bagel Cafe has you covered! As mentioned we have tried several things on the menu from their egg sandwiches, to lox, to various flavors of bagels, and cream cheeses. Their egg sandwiches are made a little differently than the ones in New York, but still extremely tasty and put together well. The bagels themselves taste very fresh and the flavors are plentiful for all tastes and personal preferences. Some of my personal favorites are the Garlic, Honey Oat, Blueberry, and Pumpkin (seasonal) bagels. I am also obsessed with their Garlic & Herb cream cheese and will pretty much put it on any bagel, whether sweet or savory. It's soooooo good! Service for the most part is great. We have encountered a few workers that were friendlier than others, but have always received our food in a prompt and timely manner after ordering. We love 42nd Street Bagel Cafe and would highly recommend them for a quick breakfast while visiting the area.
