Extremely disappointed with the buffet experience at AYU Restaurant, NH Collection. The variety was very limited and the food lacked flavor. We had visited AYU multiple times a few years ago when it was under Mövenpick and were very impressed, but this visit under the new management was a letdown. The restaurant was nearly empty on a Sunday, and the meals were not up to standard. We informed the manager about the drop in quality compared to other 5-star hotel restaurants in Colombo. While he approached us professionally, his repeated requests for detailed feedback about what exactly was wrong with the food felt frustrating. At one point, he even asked if we had tried “Caribbean” food, which felt irrelevant. He also prepared a seafood platter, which did not improve our experience, though we appreciated the gesture. His constant presence at the table and insistence on detailed answers felt more like a burden than assistance. Other staff, however, were nice and friendly, which we appreciated. To clarify, this is not a complaint about any staff member; the main issue was the meals. The approach the manager took to handle feedback wasn’t the best, in our view, but it did not overshadow the real concern, which is the quality and variety of the food. Overall, this was a disappointing experience, and I would not recommend the buffet at AYU Restaurant. The low turnout itself indicates a need for improvement. We hope this review is taken constructively to enhance guest experience and food quality, rather than as criticism of any individual staff member or the hotel, which still has potential.
