Michelin selection.

With a decade of history behind it, this restaurant in downtown Toronto quietly but confidently continues to impress. The modest, sleepy dining room stands in stark contrast to a sharp kitchen that prepares a wide swath of familiar, regional dishes, from the famous deep-fried chicken 65 of Chennai to the sharp, fiery vindaloos of Goa... Aanch arrives garlanded with expectation, and therein lies the difficulty. The service is warm and attentive, the multi-level room handsome, and the kitchen plainly capable. Our own ordering did us no favours, and I will own that. My deeper misgiving is not with the house but with the guide that sent us here. Michelin persists in appraising Indian cooking through a borrowed lens, prizing restraint and plating over the layered heat, the tempered spice and the slow-built depth that give this cuisine its soul. I have found the same blindness applied to Sri Lankan tables. Come for the hospitality, judge the food on its own terms, and do not let a michelin recommendation tell you what Indian cooking ought to taste like. Food: 3 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4

THE WORST INDIAN FOOD I ever had. I would give zero stars if that was possible. I heard and saw a lot of promotion for this place on social media pages and decided to give it a try. The vegetarian food was still edible but the non vegetarian food was raw and uncooked. There were flies everywhere and they went side our food too. The naan wasn’t properly cooked too. One of the members our group got really sick the next day after eating the food so definitely the hygiene and food quality is questionable here. PLEASE DO NOT GO.
