"Fish and Chips Don," stop leaving your car, which is marked all over with advertisements for this place, parked on North Capitol Street a block south of Michigan Ave during the middle of rush hour. The signs *clearly* say no parking 4PM-6:30PM, and yet day after day, there you are. You literally make thousands of people's lives just that much worse because you can't listen to clear traffic rules. I willfully will never know how bad or good your food is because of your narcissism. Parking space: Plenty of parking Parking: He parks wherever he wants.

This may be my favorite 1-star review yet. You’ve never eaten at our restaurant, never experienced our service, and apparently have no idea how our business operates. Your grievance is that you repeatedly drive past my private residence, see my personal vehicle legally parked outside my home, recognize it from my restaurant, and have become so emotionally invested in where I park that you tracked down my business to leave it one star and diagnose me with narcissism. The irony here is absolutely spectacular. For anyone actually looking for a restaurant review: this person confirms they have never been a customer. They’re reviewing a car. In front of my house. But thank you for noticing the advertising. Apparently it works exceptionally well.

My grandfather used to always talk about the fish and chips he had in England while he was stationed there during WWII. He would talk about putting malt vinegar on them, so fish and chips is one of those foods that has always stuck with me. Fish and chips is something many places serve, but only a few do really well. The fish should be coated well and fried to a golden crisp. The batter should almost act like a vessel, carrying the cod or haddock to that perfect crispness. It should break under your fork before you dunk a piece into homemade tartar sauce. ABOVEGROUND gets it right. The chips are twice fried, with a crispy exterior and soft interior that makes them addictive. These don't taste like fries that came straight out of a bag. They're cut and fried on site, and you can taste the difference. The piece of fish is huge, barely fitting inside the container. The portion is generous enough that one order could potentially be shared between two people, depending on how hungry you are. This is the kind of food you don't want to take home and reheat later. Grab a bench, sit down, add some malt vinegar, and eat it immediately. Fish and chips is at its best hot and straight from the fryer.
