I ordered the hamachi nigiri expecting fresh, clean cuts of fish. Instead, I was served pieces with dark vascular tissue, bruised-looking sections, and portions that looked like they should have been trimmed off and discarded rather than served to paying customers. The appearance alone was enough to kill my appetite. Not to mention the super fishy smell. Whoever decided these pieces were good enough to serve should reassess their standards, because right now the standard is scraps that look like they came from the reject pile. I was genuinely excited for this meal after a long day, only to open the box and immediately wonder how anyone in the kitchen thought this was acceptable to send out. I am going to bed hungry because I couldn’t bring myself to take another bite. That’s a pretty impressive level of disappointment for a restaurant whose entire business revolves around serving fish and asian cuisine. Total waste of money. My cat even refused to eat it, as evidenced in the live photos. Save your money and spend it somewhere that respects its customers enough not to serve fish that looks like this. Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your experience did not meet expectations. We take the quality and freshness of our seafood very seriously. Based on our records, the hamachi served that day was received fresh and met our quality standards before being prepared. After reviewing the order, we noted that it was a to-go order and that approximately 46 minutes elapsed between the time the order was ready and when it was delivered. While we cannot determine exactly what occurred after the order left our restaurant, factors such as transportation time and temperature exposure can affect the appearance and eating quality of delicate seafood items. That said, we understand that your impression of the product is what matters most, and we are sorry that the meal was disappointing. Sushi and sashimi are at their best when enjoyed immediately after preparation, which is why we generally recommend dining in for the optimal experience. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and would welcome the opportunity to learn more about your order. Please contact us directly at Houston.heights@afuriramen.com so we can better understand what happened and address your concerns. Thank you for giving us a try.

This ramen place has a special place in my heart, largely due to the yuzu based broth. It’s super light and refreshing, which is atypical from your traditional ramen bases. I would highly recommend to try it! The other items on the menu have been okay. The appetizers we tried (e.g., gyoza, karage) were a bit lackluster. Some of their raw items look promising but I haven’t tried it yet. The service is very warm, especially the gentleman at the front; he’s a great guy! However, the service is a little on the slower side, so beware if you are looking for a swift dinner. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $20–30 Food: 5 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 5

Thank you for the thoughtful review! We’re so glad you enjoyed our signature yuzu broth and the warm service from our team. We also appreciate the honest feedback on the appetizers and service speed — we’ll definitely share it with the team as we continue improving. Hope to have you back soon to try more from the menu!

Not too hungry today so went for the brothless yuzu-tsuya Ramen. Server is super friendly, helpful with drinks recommendation and checked in multiple times. Ramen is chewy and bouncy; sauce for stirred noodle delicious. Nicely built interior, lots of sunlight, open kitchen with impressive broth broiler (see picture). Ample settings and fast service. Reasknably priced, $16-18 a bowl of ramen. Good range of appetizers, nigiri, sushi rolls and even chirashi and rice bowls. Will come back for more :) Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
