We have been regular customers of Akai sushi since they opened, so it's time to detail the weak and strong points in detail. Summary review: excellent food, terrible room management Detailed review: Let's start from the weak points: the management of the maitre d'. The restaurant has a great kitchen but terrible room management and a grumpy attitude towards customers. Let's take today as an example. When the maitre d' took our orders, we explicitly asked not to receive all 20 dishes together but to be served in two 'rounds' (because the result would have been that the hot dishes would have gone cold). It was a large order with at least 2/3 dishes per diner. Unfortunately, the dishes arrived almost all together. At this point, some of the guests expressed displeasure and I therefore reminded the maitre d' that the dishes should not be brought all together and that they would get cold. Anyone with a modicum of experience in the industry would have known that it was enough to acknowledge the mistake and apologize. On the contrary, the maitre d' showed off her profound negligence in the most colorful ways: 'the Japanese don't bring first and second courses', 'did we have to wait for you to finish the last crumb to bring the second courses?', 'the kitchen doesn't see if you've finished the dishes (open kitchen, and furthermore it is the waiters who have to communicate when to send the second part of the order), 'moreover the kitchen must close soon' (this at 2.35 pm, with the kitchen closing at 3:00 pm). At this point, after having convinced the rest of the guests not to get up and leave, at 2.55pm the maitre d' approaches and we are told 'we are keeping the kitchen open JUST FOR YOU. Do you want more from the kitchen?'. We will never go back to Akai sushi again. Unfortunately, all it takes is one rotten apple to ruin the entire basket. If we return it will certainly only be for take-away, because the maitre d' thinks she is offering an 'all you can eat' style service when the restaurant would have all the potential to be a real gem. The strong points are the cuisine and the value for money. The menu is broad but not exaggerated, as it should be. There are traditional and authentic dishes such as chirashi, which I strongly recommend, and other more imaginative dishes such as their special uramaki or their splendid tartare. The fish is always fresh and of excellent quality, which is why we have been their customers for more than a year and a half.
